Google brings free Gemini access to India's largest carrier

Google is providing its Gemini AI for free in India through a partnership with Reliance Jio. Jio's Unlimited 5G plan subscribers will receive Google AI Pro at no cost for 18 months. This includes access to Gemini 2.5 Pro and enhanced features for AI image and video generators. The plan also offers 2TB of cloud storage across Google apps. The initial offer is for Jio customers aged 18 to 25, later expanding to all eligible users. Jio is India's largest mobile network operator, with Google holding a significant stake. India is becoming a major focus for AI expansion, with competitors like Perplexity AI and OpenAI also offering services. Perplexity AI has partnered with Bharti Airtel with a year-long Perplexity Pro subscription. OpenAI recently launched its cheapest ChatGPT subscription in India first.
