New AirTag With Three Upgrades is 'Nearly Ready' to Launch

Apple's long-rumored AirTag 2 is reportedly nearing its launch, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman stating that it is nearly ready. Gurman had previously mentioned that the AirTag 2 would be released around the middle of 2025, which is just a few weeks away. The new AirTag has been prepared for launch over the past several months, according to Gurman. He does not consider the upcoming launch to be particularly notable and does not think it makes sense to debut at WWDC. The AirTag 2 is expected to have several upgrades, including Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. This chip will provide up to 3× longer tracking range compared to the current AirTag. The AirTag 2 will also have Vision Pro/spatial computing integration and a more tamper-proof speaker to reduce its use for stalking. No major design changes are expected for the AirTag 2, which is similar to the original AirTag announced in April 2021. The original AirTag is currently priced at $29 for an individual unit and $99 for a set of four in the US. The upcoming launch of the AirTag 2 is likely to bring new features and improvements to the existing AirTag, which has been available for purchase since 2021.
