Onimusha: Way of the Sword brings Japanese cinematic royalty to the samurai fantasy series

Capcom is reviving the Onimusha series with "Onimusha: Way of the Sword," a true sequel set for release in 2026. The game features a new hero, Miyamoto Musashi, modeled after the legendary actor Toshiro Mifune, famous for his samurai roles. It moves away from static backgrounds, offering a fresh visual experience. Players will utilize the Oni gauntlet, which possesses a sentient voice and enables orb collection for health, experience, and skill points. Gameplay retains familiar elements such as Issen attacks and puzzle-solving using the Oni gauntlet. Swordplay will require balancing attack, movement, guarding, and counters, with environmental damage also playing a role. Break Issen is a new mechanic for boss battles to target enemy weak points. A major antagonist is Ganryu, Musashi's rival, who also possesses an Oni gauntlet. "Onimusha: Way of the Sword" is scheduled to launch on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
