Weber's Searwood pellet grill addresses the issues of its predecessor, the SmokeFire, with a redesigned internal structure and a lower price. The pellet hopper's relocation simplifies the auger path, improving pellet feeding, while the front-placed controller offers easier access. Despite the overall barrel shape resembling the SmokeFire, the Searwood's legs and wheels are less robust, hindering portability. However, a large under-grill shelf is a welcome addition. The improved display and controller are easier to read and operate, providing clear temperature readings, timers and a fuel gauge. Internally, a single deflector replaces Flavorizer bars, simplifying cleaning. The Searwood excels at slow smoking, maintaining consistent temperatures and recovering quickly after lid openings. A manual mode allows for open-lid cooking, useful for searing or griddling, a unique feature for pellet grills. The Weber Connect app enhances the smart grilling experience, offering remote control, temperature monitoring, live graphs and recipes. While the base could be sturdier, the Searwood offers versatile smart grilling without the SmokeFire's drawbacks.
