Over 500 Amazon Workers Decry 'Non-Data-Driven' Logic For 5-Day RTO Policy

More than 500 Amazon workers have signed a letter to Amazon Web Services' CEO, expressing their outrage over the company's upcoming return-to-office policy. The policy, set to start in 2025, will require workers to be in the office five days a week, rather than allowing remote work two days a week. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy previously stated that the move would help strengthen the company's culture. However, a group of workers has disputed this claim, saying that it does not reflect their experiences. The workers took issue with a statement made by AWS chief Matt Garman, who claimed that 9 out of 10 employees he spoke with support the five-day in-office policy. The workers argued that this statement was not based on data and misrepresented the realities of working at Amazon. They also pointed out that the new policy could create challenges for employees with medical, familial, and other issues. The letter included stories from 12 anonymous employees who would be negatively impacted by the policy. The workers argued that the policy would not align with Amazon's goal of being the "Earth's Best Employer." An Amazon spokesperson responded by highlighting the company's benefits, including commuter benefits and subsidized parking fees.
