AT&T has introduced a new security feature called Account Lock to protect customers from SIM swapping attacks, which have become increasingly common in recent years. This feature, available through the myAT&T app, prevents unauthorized changes to customer accounts, including phone number transfers, SIM card changes, and billing information updates. SIM swapping attacks occur when criminals obtain a victim's phone number through social engineering techniques and use it to access sensitive accounts. AT&T joins other carriers, including T-Mobile, Verizon, and Google Fi, in offering similar fraud prevention features to safeguard customer accounts.
