Google Workspace Updates

Configure Google Meet hardware devices to trust private certificates

Google Meet hardware devices can now trust HTTPS certificates signed by a private certificate authority, simplifying the setup and management of third-party user control interfaces. This change is particularly beneficial for high-impact meeting spaces with systems like Q-SYS. Previously, certificates had to be signed by a public certificate authority, which was often time-consuming and expensive. The new process allows for more control over network security and eliminates the costs associated with public certificates. Admins can visit the Help Center to learn more about setting up an HTTPS certificate authority and a third-party control system. The setup process can be accessed through the Admin console by navigating to Menu, Devices, Networks, and Certificates. There is no impact or action required for end users. The feature will be rolled out gradually to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains starting on January 23, 2025. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers with Google Meet hardware devices, but Android devices are not supported yet. Admins can refer to the Google Workspace Admin Help resources for more information on setting up an HTTPS certificate authority and integrating third-party control systems.
