Snapchat finally has a watchOS app after a decade

A Snapchat app is now available for watchOS, allowing users to access the social media platform on their Apple Watch. The app enables users to preview incoming messages and respond using various methods, including the keyboard, scribbling, voice dictation, or sending an emoji. Previously, Apple Watch wearers could only preview Snapchat messages, but not respond, by enabling them on their iPhone. The app is designed to be useful for quick replies, such as alerting friends when arriving at a location or responding during a run. According to Snapchat, the app is ideal for people who want to keep conversations going while on the go. Previewing a message on the Apple Watch will not mark it as "read" on the mobile or web app, and it only shows the first 100 characters. The app currently cannot be used to view images or videos, but Snapchat plans to evolve the experience over time. Despite being released ten years after the Apple Watch launch, Snapchat has outpaced its rivals, including Facebook and WhatsApp, which do not have dedicated apps for the wearable. The release of the Snapchat watchOS app comes ahead of this year's WWDC event, where Apple is expected to make major announcements, including a redesign of its operating systems and new features.
