The Morning After: Electronics got a temporary US tariff exemption

US Customs and Border Protection recently exempted many tech products from Trump-era tariffs, including smartphones and PCs. These exemptions fall under a separate semiconductor tariff category, according to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Lutnick clarified that these products are excluded from reciprocal tariffs and will be considered separately. He anticipates new semiconductor tariffs within a couple of months. This news may affect consumer electronics pre-orders. Engadget also highlights other tech news, such as OpenAI's shift from GPT-4.5 to the newer, cheaper GPT-4.1 for developers. Samsung launched new ruggedized Galaxy XCover 7 Pro phone and Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro tablet for enterprise users. These devices boast replaceable batteries and high durability ratings. Finally, Engadget reviewed a pricey but high-quality portable monitor, the Espresso 15 Pro.
