Antifa Rioters Charged With Arson And Assault In Portland

The Trump-led Department of Justice has charged four individuals in connection with the violent anti-ICE riots that took place in Oregon in June. The defendants allegedly targeted an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and assaulted federal officers over several weeks. One of the individuals, August Dean Gordon, pulled a proximity card reader from its stanchion and injured five officers during his arrest. Another defendant, Nadya Malinowska, refused to leave the site, while David Pearl attempted to interfere with officers' arrest of another rioter. Trenten Edward Barker retrieved a lit flare from his backpack and tossed it into a barricade of debris near the ICE facility. The defendants face various charges, including willful depredation of government property, assaulting a federal officer, arson, and failing to obey a lawful order. If found guilty, they face hefty penalties, including up to 20 years in federal prison for felony arson. The defendants made their first appearance in court on Monday. According to journalist Andy Ngo, the rioters are affiliated with Antifa, and this brings the total number of federally charged individuals to 17.
