Canonical has launched Canonical Academy, a new certification platform for Linux and Ubuntu skills. It focuses on practical, hands-on assessments simulating real-world job challenges. The platform's initial offering is a System Administrator track with three certification exams. These exams are conducted in cloud-based testing environments that mimic workplace scenarios. Each assessment is modular, allowing for individual badges and a full qualification upon completion of all exams in a track. Canonical is also seeking community members to contribute as beta testers and subject-matter experts. The System Administrator track includes exams on Linux Terminal, Ubuntu Desktop 2024, Ubuntu Server 2024, and managing complex systems. Exams utilize an in-browser remote desktop interface for troubleshooting and configuration tasks. They feature a hybrid format with multiple-choice, scenario-based, and performance-based questions. Test-takers can access tutorials and documentation on the website, and are advised to use a Chromium-based browser, as Firefox is currently not supported.
