WWDC 2025 was a return to smaller-scale features that are actually useful

Apple's WWDC 2025 event felt like a course-correction, focusing on features that will likely be noticed and used by more people. The redesigned iPad multitasking system and new customization options for the iPhone are notable examples. Apple Intelligence, which was previously met with skepticism, now feels like a set of smart tools that can actually make a difference. Live Translation, which can automatically translate messages, show live-translated captions in FaceTime calls, and provide spoken translations on telephone calls, is a standout feature. Visual Intelligence, similar to Google Lens, can recognize objects and provide information about them. The Apple Watch is getting its first real use of Apple Intelligence with Workout Buddy, a coach that can inspire users throughout a workout. Apple is also working to minimize spam on the iPhone and adding call screening features. The iPad updates, including a major overhaul of multitasking, are the most exciting announcements for some. Overall, the event was a rapid-fire feature drop, but it felt more enjoyable than previous events.
