The Biden-Harris administration has been criticized for allowing thousands of non-English-speaking migrants to obtain non-domiciled Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) in sanctuary states. This decision has come under scrutiny following a series of deadly crashes involving big rigs, including a horrific incident in Austin, Texas, that left five Americans dead. The US Department of Transportation (DoT) has announced a nationwide audit into states issuing non-domiciled CDLs to examine the potential for unqualified individuals obtaining these licenses. The audit is in response to a directive from President Donald J. Trump's Executive Order on Enforcing Commonsense Rules of the Road for America's Truck Drivers. DoT Secretary Duffy stated that the open borders policies of the last administration allowed millions to flood the country, leading to allegations that the trucking licensing system is being exploited. The English Language Proficiency (ELP) rule went into effect last Wednesday, requiring all commercial drivers to demonstrate English proficiency or face out-of-service violations. The rule could significantly reduce trucking capacity by upwards of 10%, and trucking companies are scrambling to comply. The advocacy group American Truckers United has been warning about national security concerns on America's highways and has requested support for a petition to ban non-domicile CDLs issued to non-citizens and to restrict foreign CDLs. The DoT's action against sanctuary states suggests that Secretary Duffy may have finally listened to these warnings, and it's time for serious action to restore safety and security. The loss of American lives due to reckless, unvetted, non-domiciled CDL holders is unacceptable, and it's time to hold rogue sanctuary states accountable.
