10 Economic Facts That Nobody Can Deny

The state of the US economy is a topic of debate, but certain economic facts cannot be denied. The Conference Board's index of leading economic indicators has been declining at a faster rate in the first half of 2025 compared to the second half of 2024. Sales of previously-owned homes have fallen to their lowest level in nine months. Millions of Americans with existing health insurance plans will face double-digit rate hikes next year. The price of beef in the US has risen 9% since January, and more Americans are using "buy now, pay later" loans to pay for groceries. The official rate of inflation has increased at the fastest pace in five months. A recent survey found that 23% of Americans have decided to delay retirement, up from 14% last year. Nearly 70% of Americans are feeling anxiety and depression due to their financial situation, and the percentage of the US population dealing with food insecurity has almost doubled over the past four years. Freight-related companies are conducting mass layoffs, which would not be happening if the US economy was in good shape.
