7 California Men Indicted In 'Largest Jewelry Heist In US History'

Seven California men are indicted in connection with the "largest jewelry heist in U.S. history," involving the theft of $100 million in jewelry from a Brinks truck in July 2022. The robbery occurred after the men followed the truck from a jewelry show near San Francisco to a rest stop near Los Angeles. Two of the suspects, Pablo Raul Lugo Larroig and Jeson Nelon Presilla Flores, were ordered detained until trial by a federal judge. The men allegedly stole 24 bags of jewelry during the heist and deactivated their cellphones afterward to evade authorities. Some defendants also face charges for prior robberies, including electronics and Apple AirTags thefts. Several of the accused are charged with Hobbs Act violations, which carry stricter penalties. The FBI, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, and local police departments are investigating the case. If convicted, the defendants face significant prison sentences for robbery and theft charges.
