Moley Robotics, a luxury kitchen and robotics company, has opened a showroom in London's W1 district, offering a high-end kitchen and a robot arm that can cook meals for you. The X-AiR robot uses a one-armed design to reduce costs and is priced at £80,000 (around $105,000), which includes a new countertop, two custom shelving units, a cooktop, and control tablet. The robot uses pre-prepared ingredients and follows a recipe database that includes dishes created by the SHA Wellness Clinic. It lacks vision and sensing technology, which limits its ability to adjust to different ingredients or volumes. The robot can only make between eight and ten portions of food, and it cannot improvise with seasonal ingredients. The robot's creator, Dr. Mark Oleynik, believes the technology could be used in various situations where fresh-cooked food is desired but hiring a trained chef is not economical, such as hotels, remote service stations, and care homes. Oleynik hopes the technology will become more affordable, aiming to sell a cooking robot for £10,000 in the future.
