A Walk in the Park

The author discovered Kevin Fedarko's book, "A Walk in the Park," describing a challenging Grand Canyon hike. The book chronicles Fedarko and Peter McBride's east-to-west through hike, a demanding 750-mile trek. This journey contrasted with typical Grand Canyon visits, where most visitors stay above the rim or day hike. Their expedition required logistical planning, including food and water caches, and navigation of challenging terrain. Expert hikers mentored Fedarko and McBride, enabling them to complete their section hike. Fedarko's book addresses environmental challenges faced by the Canyon, like proposed development. McBride also released a photography book documenting their adventure, showcasing the Canyon's beauty. Inspired by their story, the author planned a multi-day rim-to-rim hike. The planned hike route was North Rim to South Rim over four days. The author's subsequent blog posts will detail the actual experience.
