Accelerating development with monthly releases for Android Studio - releasing 2X more often than before
Android Studio is transitioning to monthly stable releases to deliver features and improvements more rapidly. This new cadence follows the introduction of Feature Drops last year, which doubled the release frequency. Developers will now receive updates containing the latest IntelliJ platform versions every few months, interspersed with monthly Feature Drops for bug fixes and new functionality. This approach aims to reduce the frustration of waiting for major releases for critical updates. The Android Emulator and Android Gradle Plugin will continue separate bimonthly updates. This faster release schedule is supported by significant investments in testing infrastructure, including Project Marble, ensuring continued quality. Early access to stable-ready releases will be provided through the Canary and Release Candidate channels, allowing developers to offer feedback. Users are encouraged to update monthly and report any bugs to contribute to Android Studio's ongoing improvement. This evolution is expected to help developers build better apps more efficiently.
