Age rating questionnaire now includes social media questions
Apple has introduced new Time Allowances in iOS, iPadOS, and macOS for parents to manage their children's app usage. These allowances cover categories like Entertainment, Games, and Social Media. To support this, the App Store Connect age rating questionnaire now asks about social media capabilities. Social media capability is defined as the ability to share, amplify, or interact with user-generated content via a social feed. The Social Media Time Allowance category applies if an app has these capabilities, irrespective of its chosen App Store category. Apps identified as having social media capabilities will show a new descriptor on their product page. If these capabilities are disabled for users under 13, the app will not fall under the Social Media Time Allowance for that age group. Developers can begin answering these new questions immediately. Starting September 2026, providing this information will be mandatory for new app submissions, updates, and apps submitted for notarization. This change aims to provide parents with more granular control over their children's digital experiences.
