Advances in biological artificial intelligence (AI) have brought biosecurity to the center of public debate, and the US Congress is now considering the Biosecurity Modernization and Innovation Act (1). Yet this debate, like biosecurity more broadly, remains focused largely on human health and overlooks the importance of pathogens that affect crops and livestock. The United States and governments worldwide should prioritize crop and livestock protection by minimizing the likelihood of deliberate pathogen attacks and making the targets less vulnerable to harm.
