AI in Action Hackathon: Celebrating the GitLab innovations
The AI in Action Hackathon, running from May 6 to June 17, 2025, provided developers a platform to build AI solutions and compete for prizes. This event was a collaboration between Google Cloud, MongoDB, and GitLab, aiming to foster AI development by integrating their respective technologies. GitLab specifically encouraged the creation of AI-enabled applications using their platform and Google Cloud, with submissions often contributing to GitLab's product. The hackathon celebrated developer innovation, equipping participants with new skills and connections.Outstanding projects included Pipeline Doctor, which uses AI for root cause analysis of CI/CD failures to improve pipeline reliability. Agentic CICD aims to revolutionize DevSecOps by automating code reviews, intelligent fixes, and deployment decisions, creating a self-improving feedback loop. Agent Anansi is a versatile AI agent designed to enhance various GitLab workflows by automating tasks and providing intelligent assistance. These projects highlight the power of AI in making development smarter and more intuitive. The hackathon demonstrated the value of partnerships, with Google Cloud providing AI tools, MongoDB an intelligent data layer, and GitLab a DevSecOps platform. GitLab's Duo Agent Platform allows users to build and customize AI agents that integrate seamlessly into workflows, currently supporting VS Code and JetBrains IDEs. Developers can activate Duo beta features to access intelligent Code Suggestions, a Chat agent, and AI-assisted Root Cause Analysis. Contributing to GitLab's open-source community allows developers to shape the platform and benefit from the AI tools they help build. GitLab is focused on becoming a premier agent orchestration platform, accelerating the delivery of new AI features for more autonomous and AI-driven software development.
