Amazon Cognito now supports passwordless authentication for low-friction and secure logins in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

Amazon Cognito has announced support for passwordless authentication in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, allowing for low-friction and secure logins. This feature enables users to access applications without traditional passwords, instead using passkeys, email, or text message authentication. Passkeys are based on FIDO standards and use public key cryptography, providing strong and phishing-resistant authentication. Passwordless authentication reduces the friction associated with traditional password-based authentication, simplifying the user login experience. Users can log in using built-in authenticators like Touch ID or Windows Hello facial recognition. Amazon Cognito provides secure, scalable, and customizable sign-up and sign-in experiences for millions of users. With this launch, AWS is extending support for passwordless authentication to applications built on the platform. This enables end-users to log in with a low-friction and secure approach. Passwordless authentication is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon Cognito is available, including AWS GovCloud (US), as part of the Cognito Essentials tier.
