Amazon S3 Tables now offer automatic replication for Apache Iceberg tables across AWS Regions and accounts. This feature replicates the entire table structure, including snapshots and metadata, to enhance data accessibility and minimize query latency for global analytics. The replication process automatically creates read-only replica tables in designated destination buckets. It then backfills these replicas with the most recent data from the source table. Continuous monitoring ensures that replica tables remain synchronized with ongoing updates to the source. Users can set independent snapshot retention policies and encryption keys for replica tables, aiding compliance efforts. Querying these replicas is possible through Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio and any Iceberg-compatible engine. This includes services like Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, Apache Spark, and DuckDB. S3 Tables replication is now available in all AWS Regions that support S3 Tables. Pricing information can be found on the Amazon S3 pricing page.
