Amazon SageMaker Catalog adds support for governed classification with restricted terms
Amazon SageMaker Catalog now offers governed classification using Restricted Classification Terms. This enhancement allows catalog administrators to control who can apply sensitive glossary terms to data assets. The goal is to enforce metadata standards and ensure consistent classification across various teams and domains. Terms can be designated as "restricted," meaning only authorized users or groups can apply them. These authorizations are established through explicit policies. For instance, a data governance team can create terms like “Seller-MCF” or “PII” to reflect data handling policies. Only designated project members, such as trusted admin groups, can then use these restricted terms for classification. This provides enhanced control over the assignment of sensitive classifications. This new capability is available in all AWS regions supporting SageMaker Unified Studio. Further details and instructions can be found in the SageMaker Unified Studio user guide.
