Telo Trucks is introducing a new electric pickup truck, the MT1, which has a compact form and a bed the size of a typical pickup truck, but an overall footprint the size of a Mini Cooper. The truck's interior design efficiency is focused on the H-point, the location of a driver's hip inside the vehicle, to determine the size of the interior space. The MT1 has a volumetric interior space similar to a crew cab Toyota Tacoma, but with a much smaller exterior footprint. The truck's exterior design features a short, frunkless nose and a truck bed that can expand inward into the cab with an innovative folding midgate. The interior design repositions how passengers sit, with pedestal-based front seats that create more space underneath for backseat passengers. This design allows for more vertical room and easier entry and exit from the vehicle. The truck's compact size and electric powertrain make it ideal for urban settings, with a larger truck bed and shorter overall vehicle length. The design also had to account for safety features, including crash structures, crumple zones, and a firewall. The pedestal seating approach is rare in car design, but allows for more human-centric design and comfort. Overall, Telo's focus is on creating a more utilitarian and efficient vehicle, rather than a massive and masculine one.
