Jetpack Compose, launched almost five years ago, is the recommended UI toolkit for Android development. Compose offers features like layouts, input methods, and animation APIs to build adaptable and performant UIs. It's designed to be a productive tool, enabling faster development cycles for teams. The focus is now on making all Android UIs Compose-first. This means Compose is now the standard and the future. Essential View components will be in maintenance mode, receiving only critical bug fixes. View-based libraries and associated tools are also entering maintenance mode. New UI tools in Android Studio will exclusively support Jetpack Compose. All new documentation, code labs, and samples will prioritize Compose development. Developers are encouraged to build new features with Compose and convert existing ones.
