Announcing Pwn2Own Ireland – Bringing Pwn2Own (and WhatsApp) to the Emerald Isle
The Pwn2Own hacking competition is moving to Cork, Ireland, from October 22-25, 2024, and will feature new targets and categories. Meta joins as a sponsor, adding WhatsApp to the new Messenger App category with a top prize of $300,000 for a zero-click exploit. This year's competition introduces AI-enabled devices from Samsung, Google, Synology, and Ubiquiti, adding a layer of complexity for contestants. The popular SOHO Smashup category returns, challenging participants to exploit a router and pivot to another device on the network. Surveillance systems, including wired and wireless cameras, also make a comeback, promising exciting exploits. Other categories include Home Automation Hubs, Printers, Smart Speakers, and NAS Devices, each with a range of targets and prize money. The competition will be held at the historic Cork City Goal, promising a unique atmosphere. Registration is open until October 17th, 2024, and participants are encouraged to review the updated rules and guidelines. The event will be covered live on the Zero Day Initiative blog and Twitter, providing real-time updates on the competition's progress. Trend Micro expresses gratitude to Meta, Synology, and QNAP for their partnership and support in making Pwn2Own Ireland 2024 possible.
