Elastic is deprecating App Search and Workplace Search in version 9.0, but current users have 27 months of support after the EOL announcement. These products, designed to simplify application and enterprise search on Elasticsearch, had limitations due to being built outside of Elasticsearch. Users couldn't directly query Elasticsearch at scale, and integrating semantic or vector search was difficult. Elastic has been integrating simplified APIs and experiences directly into Elasticsearch itself, including synonym management and a semantic_text field type. Migrating to Elasticsearch directly, especially leveraging the new Serverless offering, is now recommended. Elasticsearch Serverless offers ease of use, simple setup, and autoscaling. The full power of the _search API is available, alongside ES|QL, a simple query language. ES|QL is available in Discover for both full text and semantic search. These enhancements unlock uniquely powerful workflows.
