Apple is testing a new feature called Background Security Improvements. This feature aims to enhance security between full software updates. It was first introduced in iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, and macOS Tahoe 26.1. Developers and public beta testers can now install a second testing update for iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3. These improvements specifically target Safari, WebKit, and other system libraries. Users can manually install these updates via the Settings app under Privacy and Security. Alternatively, the "Automatically Install" option can be enabled for seamless updates. Those who choose not to install them will receive these security fixes through regular software updates. This new system replaces the less frequently used Rapid Security Response feature. The previous Rapid Security Response feature was phased out and had some display issues with websites.
