Apple has announced the official release of macOS Golden Gate, version 27, for September 14th. This update will also see iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27 become available on the same day. macOS Golden Gate introduces significant features including Siri AI, visual design enhancements, and improved performance. Beta testing for developers began in June, with a public beta following in July. The update is compatible with all Macs equipped with an M1 chip or newer models. This includes various MacBook Air and Pro models from 2020 onwards, iMacs from 2021, Mac minis from 2020, Mac Studios from 2022, and Mac Pros from 2023. Older Intel-based Macs will continue to be supported by macOS 26, also known as macOS Tahoe. Some specific Intel Mac models, like certain 2019 and 2020 MacBook Pros and iMacs, will only be able to run macOS Tahoe. Intel Macs compatible with macOS Tahoe will receive security updates for an additional three years. Importantly, macOS Golden Gate retains the full Rosetta translation layer, allowing it to run Intel applications on Apple silicon Macs.
