Apple finally lets you merge two Apple IDs—kinda. Here’s how

The author previously wrote about manually merging two Apple ID accounts into one, a problem many long-time Apple users faced due to data being spread across two accounts. This made accessing data on various devices a chore. Apple has now developed an official way to automatically migrate some Apple account data from one account to another. The issue arose when users had multiple Apple IDs, such as dotMac and MobileMe, which were later replaced by iCloud accounts. This led to data segregation across two Apple IDs, causing a poor user experience. Apple's new solution allows users to migrate digital purchases, including apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books, from one Apple Account to another. However, it does not allow the migration of other associated Apple Account data like iCloud emails, contacts, passes, and Apple Pay cards. The migration process is relatively straightforward, but it's not perfect and still leaves some limitations. Apple's new tool is a great first step, but it needs to go further to address all the problems that arise from having two Apple IDs. Hopefully, Apple will address these limitations with a future update to its new tool.
