Apple is developing its own microchips for various products, including smart glasses and AI servers. The smart glasses, codenamed N401, will use a specialized chip optimized for power efficiency and multiple cameras. These glasses will initially lack augmented reality features but offer functionalities like photo/video recording and translation. A visual intelligence feature will also scan and describe the environment. Production is slated for late 2026 or 2027. Apple is also creating "Komodo" and "Borneo" chips for future Macs, representing M6 and M7 processors respectively. An advanced chip codenamed "Sotra" is also in development. Dedicated AI server chips, "Baltra," aim to power Apple Intelligence, potentially offering eight times the processing power of current M3 Ultra chips. The "Baltra" project targets completion by 2027 to enhance Apple's AI capabilities. This internal chip development aims to increase Apple's independence and competitiveness in the tech market. The new chips aim to rival those from competitors such as Meta and Nvidia.
