Apple Music to Label AI-Generated Songs
Apple will soon introduce a "Made With AI" label for music on Apple Music. This label will be visible to all listeners and clearly indicate content that has been materially generated using artificial intelligence. The new labeling system builds upon Apple's earlier announcement of optional "Transparency Tags." These tags allowed music creators to disclose AI usage in artwork, tracks, compositions, and music videos. However, Apple is now mandating the use of these tags for any content where AI has created a significant portion. This requirement includes tracks primarily derived from generative AI services. Apple Music VP Oliver Schusser noted that a substantial portion of monthly uploads are AI-generated, though they constitute a small fraction of overall listening. While Apple possesses internal AI detection tools, it still relies on content creators for accurate disclosure. Specific launch dates for the AI labels were not provided, but they are expected to appear later this year.
