Apple Pushes Back on DOJ Request for More Evidence

Apple and the U.S. Department of Justice are clashing over the scope of evidence in their antitrust lawsuit. The two parties previously agreed to a June 2025 cutoff for Apple’s documents. However, with the evidence-gathering phase now extended, the Justice Department wants Apple to provide records up to 30 days before the new May 2027 deadline. They argue that this newer information is crucial to determine if Apple's alleged anticompetitive practices are ongoing. Apple contends that expanding the search would cause significant delays to the case. The company highlights that it has already reviewed millions of documents, covering an 18-year period. This dispute stems from a March 2024 lawsuit accusing Apple of illegally maintaining a smartphone monopoly. Apple has consistently denied these allegations. The recent court filing indicates that the parties are unable to resolve the document disagreement independently. The court will now intervene to decide whether Apple must produce these more recent documents.
