Apple Pushes iPhone Users Still on iOS 18 to Upgrade to iOS 26

Apple is now encouraging iPhone users on iOS 18 to upgrade to iOS 26. Previously, iOS 26 was presented as an optional update at the bottom of the Software Update screen. iOS 18 updates were displayed more prominently for those still on that version. Beginning immediately, iOS 26.1 will be the recommended update for all iOS 18 users. While sticking with iOS 18 and its updates remains possible, it is now de-emphasized. Apple is increasing the visibility of iOS 26 to boost adoption rates. Some users might be delaying the upgrade due to the significant interface changes in iOS 26's Liquid Glass design. Apple has historically allowed users to remain on older iOS versions, but this support is not indefinite. Currently, iOS 18 users are receiving security updates, but this support is expected to cease soon. Eventually, older iOS versions will no longer be an update option, and iOS 26 will become the sole choice for supported devices. Users who wish to maintain security updates will eventually need to transition to iOS 26. Downgrading from iOS 26 to iOS 18 is not possible.
