Apple has released new 7E101 firmware for the AirPods Max with USB-C, addressing an issue that prevented the previous firmware from being downloaded. The previous firmware, version 7E99, was released to enable lossless audio support but was not downloadable. The new firmware brings lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio to the headphones, allowing for a more immersive experience. The USB-C AirPods Max now support 24-bit 48 kHz lossless audio, designed to provide an accurate and uncompressed listening experience. This feature is only available for the USB-C AirPods Max and requires a connection to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. To use lossless audio, the headphones must be running the latest firmware and paired with a device running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, or macOS Sequoia 15.4. The firmware can be installed by putting the AirPods Max in Bluetooth range of a connected device and plugging them in to charge, which may take up to 30 minutes. Users can check their firmware version by going to Settings and selecting the Info button next to the AirPods Max. The update enables music creators to use the AirPods Max to create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking. The lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio support make the AirPods Max suitable for music creation and mixing with a Mac and music creation software.
