Apple has updated its tech specs for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max regarding their cellular modems. The iPhone 18 Pro globally features the new C2 cellular modem. However, the iPhone 18 Pro Max utilizes the C2 modem in all countries except the United States. Internal iOS 27 code suggests U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max models are equipped with a Qualcomm modem instead of the C2. Apple has not disclosed the reason for this discrepancy. It is speculated that this might be to fulfill a previous agreement with Qualcomm, which is set to supply Apple with modems until 2026. The C2 modem offers faster uploads and improved energy efficiency compared to its predecessors. It also supports ultra-fast mmWave 5G in the U.S., a feature Qualcomm modems already provided in older iPhones. This marks a continued transition for Apple away from Qualcomm modems. The specific Qualcomm modem in U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max units is likely the Snapdragon X85. Performance tests in the coming weeks will compare the C2 and Snapdragon X85 modems.
