Apple Smart Home Hub to Feature iMac G4-Style Design

Apple's upcoming smart home hub is rumored to feature an iMac G4-inspired design. It will sport a 6-inch square display with a quarter-inch black bezel and rounded corners. A FaceTime camera is positioned on the front, while microphones and speakers are integrated into its connected base. The device requires constant power via a USB-C port and lacks physical buttons. Two versions are planned: one for countertops and another designed for wall mounting. Users can control smart home devices, make video calls, and send intercom messages. The hub will also serve as a kitchen information center for recipes and video viewing. It can personalize content based on voice or facial recognition, with an option for a visitor mode. User identification may require a secondary iPhone authentication if needed. The interface will blend elements from Apple Watch, Apple TV, and iPad, featuring widgets and customizable displays. The UI incorporates slideshows and clock displays, similar to iPhone's StandBy Mode. Frequently used Apple apps will be included, with unique multi-panel interfaces for some. The device is anticipated to be announced on October 13th alongside new HomePod mini and Apple TV models.
