Apple's Camera AirPods Not Launching Until 2027 Despite Leaked Video
Apple's camera-equipped AirPods are reportedly delayed until 2027, despite a recent demo video suggesting an imminent launch. This information comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, citing sources familiar with the product. The AirPods with cameras are not currently on Apple's 2026 release schedule due to ongoing supply chain and software challenges. Gurman's own reporting on the timing has been inconsistent, previously mentioning an advanced testing stage and then a delay to late 2027. He had even suggested a potential September launch earlier this year. There appear to be two internal variants, B790 and B798, both featuring cameras. The B790, which was showcased in the demo video, was originally slated for a 2026 release but has now been removed from the roadmap. The B798 represents a new generation of AirPods Pro with cameras. These upcoming AirPods will feature low-resolution cameras designed to provide visual information to Siri for AI-powered features. Crucially, these cameras will not be capable of recording photos or videos. Apple might unveil the new camera-equipped AirPods in the fall of 2027, potentially coinciding with the 20th-anniversary iPhone release.
