Arc Browser's Maker Releases First Beta of Its New AI-Powered Browser 'Dia'

The Browser Company, the startup behind the Arc web browser, has shifted its focus to developing a new AI-powered browser called Dia, which has just been released in beta. To try out the beta, users will need an invitation, as reported by TechCrunch. The Chromium-based browser features a URL/search bar that doubles as an interface for its built-in AI chatbot, allowing users to search the web, summarize files, and switch between chat and search functions. The Browser Company's CEO, Josh Miller, has acknowledged the growing use of AI tools and aims to integrate AI into the browser to make it more accessible. By incorporating an AI interface within the browser, the company hopes to streamline user workflow and eliminate the need to visit separate websites for AI tools like ChatGPT. Users can interact with the chatbot to ask questions, summarize content, and even draft text based on open tabs. The chatbot can also be customized to suit individual preferences, including tone, writing style, and coding settings, all through conversational input. An opt-in feature called History allows the browser to use seven days of browsing history as context to answer user queries. Existing Arc members will have immediate access to the Dia beta, while existing Dia users can invite other users to try it out. The development of Dia comes as Google is also working to add AI-powered features to its Chrome browser, indicating a growing trend towards AI integration in web browsing.
