Ammonia production is responsible for 1.8% of greenhouse gas emissions, inspiring research efforts into alternative, renewable-powered approaches. Now it has been shown that artificial photosynthesis, coupling nitrogen reduction to water oxidation, can proceed efficiently and with high selectivity in seawater or under ambient air.
