The Atlantic has hired two political reporters, Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer, who will join the magazine as staff writers in mid-January. Both Parker and Scherer come from The Washington Post and have established themselves as accomplished and authoritative reporters. Editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg praised them as "scoop-driven stylists" with a keen sense of language and narrative and a deep belief in accountability journalism. Parker is a three-time Pulitzer Prize winner who covered Donald Trump's first term and the Biden administration as White House bureau chief. She previously worked at The New York Times, covering presidential campaigns and Congress. Scherer has been a national political reporter at The Post since 2017, focusing on campaigns and elections, and has previously worked at Time, Salon, and Mother Jones. The Atlantic is expanding its coverage of defense, national security, and technology, and has recently hired several other writers and editors, including Kristen V. Brown, Jonathan Chait, Nicholas Florko, Shane Harris, and Shayla Love. The magazine is also increasing its print publication frequency to monthly, with two additional issues annually. Goldberg emphasized the importance of covering Washington politics comprehensively and rigorously, and expressed excitement about Parker and Scherer joining the team.
