Assessment of African grassland sustainability for livestock use by constructing a carrying capacity alert index

Accurately assessing the sustainability of grassland ecosystems affected by grazing is challenging at the continental scale. Using the developed alert index, this study suggests that 51.02% of grasslands exceed their carrying capacity, while 26.53% remain underutilized.
