GitLab Duo Agent Platform introduces an event-driven trigger for work item creation. This new feature automates the triage and assignment process, which was previously a manual and time-consuming task. When a new work item is created, the "Work item created" trigger automatically fires a pre-configured flow. This eliminates the need for human intervention to initiate the assignment process. Manual assignment struggles to scale with increasing work item volume, leading to delays and imbalanced workloads. Traditional GitLab flows also required a manual user action to start. The "Work item created" trigger bridges this gap by enabling flows to run automatically upon work item creation. This provides instant, hands-off triage and scales efficiently regardless of the number of items. Flows can now intelligently assess team member workloads and availability for smarter, balanced assignments. A tutorial demonstrates this by using a two-agent flow that leverages GitLab Orbit to identify the least-loaded team member. This automated process assigns new work items within seconds, freeing up teams from repetitive decision-making.
