AWS Elastic Beanstalk now automatically joins Windows Server instances to an Active Directory domain managed by AWS Directory Service. This eliminates the need for custom join scripts that were previously required. Users can simply configure a few options, and all instances, including those added by auto-scaling, will join the domain at boot. Domain-joined instances enable Windows-integrated authentication and allow access to domain resources. They can be placed in specific organizational units for targeted group policy application. Computer names are predictably derived from the instance ID. The feature is resilient; join failures do not block deployments and are reported. This functionality is available for Windows Server platform versions released after August 18, 2026. It is supported in all AWS Commercial Regions and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions where Elastic Beanstalk operates. More information can be found in the AWS Elastic Beanstalk Developer Guide.
