Bungie's Marathon won't force Xbox and PC players to log in with a PlayStation account

Bungie will reveal Marathon gameplay this Saturday, their first major project outside of Destiny in years. The studio confirmed that Marathon won't require a PlayStation account for PC and Xbox players. This decision addresses concerns similar to the Helldivers 2 controversy, where a PSN login requirement caused backlash. Sony initially mandated PSN accounts for Helldivers 2 on PC, locking out players in unsupported regions. The company reversed the decision after significant criticism and later dropped the PSN requirement for some single-player games. Bungie's approach aims to avoid a similar situation and maintain accessibility for players on different platforms. The gameplay showcase this weekend is expected to provide extensive details about Marathon. A streamer who has playtested the game claims it has consistently improved over time. The decision not to require PSN accounts could improve reception and avoid platform lock-in issues.
