Pioneer has launched a new in-dash receiver, bringing Dolby Atmos audio playback to aftermarket Apple CarPlay systems. This marks the first time Dolby Atmos in CarPlay is available outside of factory-installed systems. Apple has supported Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio since 2021 across its various devices and Apple Music. Previously, Atmos in vehicles relied on automakers integrating compatible audio hardware, limiting availability. Pioneer's SPHERA receiver offers Atmos-capable CarPlay to a wider audience through aftermarket installation. The system utilizes the vehicle's existing speakers, eliminating the need for specialized hardware. Pioneer's Pure Autotuning technology optimizes audio output based on the car's interior acoustics. The receiver features a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen, wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Its design allows for universal installation with minimal modifications. The SPHERA receiver will be available in spring, starting at $1,300, as announced during CES 2026.
