Changes for apps in the European Union
Apple is updating its business terms for apps in the European Union in collaboration with the European Commission. These changes simplify the process by applying a single set of terms to all EU app distributors. A commission will now be charged on digital goods and services sold within apps. The previous per-install Core Technology Fee is replaced by a 5% Core Technology Commission on digital transactions for apps distributed outside the App Store. Additionally, the Initial Acquisition Fee and Store Services Fee are being eliminated. Developers can review and agree to these new terms, which become effective October 1, 2026. Key updates include adjusted commission rates, the allowance of alternative payment options alongside Apple In-App Purchase, and enhanced child safety protections for these alternatives. The qualifications for developers to establish alternative app marketplaces and distribute apps via the web have also been expanded. Developers can access more information and schedule appointments for questions.
