Children's Railway in Yerevan, Armenia

Built in 1937, the Children's Railway in Yerevan was part of the Soviet Union's educational institutions project, in which kids interested in trains could learn more about the railway industry and begin to pursue their dreams of becoming train conductors.  Surprisingly, the Children's Railway was operational until 2024, but from its generally rough shape, it's hard to believe it was maintained and sustained properly.  The contrast between its childlike characteristics (cheerful stained glass motifs, reliefs depicting children playing games, etc.) and the gloomy shadows of its ruins creates a unique atmosphere, compliment by its old Soviet architecture. Intrepid explorers may want to take the time to inspect the inside of the station building — it still has its original chandelier.  One can still observe a variety of trains here by exploring their wreckages on the tracks. You can also walk along the tracks to visit the stations on this line (there are three in total, but one is overgrown and seldom-visited). In the middle of the line you will have the chance to wander through the old tunnel, specially built for this facility. Be careful, as there may be shattered glass and rusty nails in the ruins of the stations.
