Chrome is introducing a new feature to manage intrusive website notifications. This feature automatically revokes notification permissions for websites that users haven't engaged with recently. The functionality resembles Chrome's Safety Check, which manages app permissions for sensitive data. This feature will be available on both Android and desktop versions of Chrome. Before revoking, Chrome will alert users about the upcoming change to their notification settings. Users can easily re-enable notifications from revoked sites through Safety Check or the website itself. The feature can be disabled entirely if users prefer not to have automatic permission revoking. Google's data reveals that most notifications receive little to no user interaction. Reducing the number of notifications could increase engagement with the remaining ones. This change aims to improve user experience by minimizing notification clutter. The goal is to make the notifications people receive more relevant and important.
